Can I speak with an instructor before I book lessons?

Yes, of course.  Music lessons are one-on-one, this is the best student-teacher ratio you can have but you have to be comfortable with that teacher.  Once you have reviewed the site contact us to talk about the lessons you would like and we will put you in contact with the appropriate instructor. Don’t worry, we’re all really nice.

What if I don't like my teacher?

What?! No way! Okay, seriously, if you feel something isn’t working out for you just say so. We’ll bend over backwards to fix it. If you’re still not happy, we’ll help you on your way with whatever advice you ask of us.

Do I need to have my own instrument in order to take a lesson?

You will need an instrument to practice with every week. If you don’t have one already, PLEASE ask us for recommendations. Musical instruments are precision-made and a decent one makes learning 100% easier. We are more than glad to help you find what you need!

How long of a lesson should I take?

If you are a new student we suggest one lesson per week to begin.  This allows you enough time between lessons to practice what you have learned.  If you are a more experienced musician and would like to accelerate your course we can definitely schedule more frequent lessons.  Beginning students may want to begin with shorter 30 minute lessons and as you become more familiar with your instrument you can expand your lesson to an hour.

Is there any age range for music students?

Playing music has no age restrictions.  Songdog has instructed young musicians as early as 3 years old and senior citizens in their 60’s.  Classes and workshops can be planned for any age. Private lessons are usually appropriate for 3rd grade and up but if your younger student is interested, please contact us and we’ll talk through the details with you.

How long before I can play my favorite song?

If your favorite song is Spongebob Squarepants, about a month. If your favorite song is “Stairway to Heaven” … a bit longer. Any teacher is really just a helper, every individual is his or her own boss when it comes to learning. The more you put into it, the more you get back out of it. Our promise is to give you all the best information, guide you on your way, and keep you focused and having fun.
