Consider the many benefits of taking music lessons from Songdog Music.
Playing music introduces you to one of the most ancient arts. Picking up an instrument is something that has been done for hundreds of years and still provides as much pleasure today as it did whenever the first music was played.
Research shows that children that get even a few years of formal musical training before quitting those weekly lessons continues to show evidence that his or her brain has been changed in ways that improve mental function, says a new study.
Additional research found that even years after they stopped practicing, young adults who had taken as little as two or three years of instrumental music training in their elementary or middle-school years showed a more robust brain response to sounds than those who had no formal musical training. The study compared 30 former instrumental students to 15 young adults of similar age and intelligence who had had no music training.
Playing music in a group enhances teamwork skills in the same way a basketball or football team have to work together. People who want to play as a team and don’t have the physical abilities can join in the enjoyment of playing in a band, orchestra or small ensemble.
And yes…there are even health benefits to picking up that new guitar. Playing music “significantly” lowered the heart rates and calmed and regulated the blood pressures and respiration rates of patients who had undergone surgery (Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Neb., and St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon, Wis.).
“Playing a musical instrument can reverse stress at the molecular level,” according to studies conducted by Loma Linda University School of Medicine and Applied Biosystems (as published in Medical Science Monitor).
